WHAT IS INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING?
The therapeutic relationship is one of the most important aspects of individual counseling. Journey Authentically is about helping individuals such as yourself grow to be the person you want to be. We believe that anyone is capable of overcoming their struggles with hard work, intentionality, and time. Our job is to give you the care and insight to support your journey towards becoming your true you.
While our staff has extensively studied the practices of psychology and individual counseling, we aim to understand you first. You know yourself better than anyone else. You also know what you’ve experienced and your innate need to be at peace. While there are some common threads of therapy, we believe every individual has specific therapeutic needs. With that knowledge, we work to adjust our understanding of counseling and psychology to best fit your unique needs. Our hope is to support your growth in the ways that you desire without forcing any agenda, beliefs, or thoughts on you.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING?
Every relationship requires trust and respect to succeed. We will begin by cultivating our counseling relationship and building a comfortable space to share and work on the opportunities before us. We are here to journey with you through this time in your life, not tell you where to go.
After our relationship is built, we will be able to go deeper into the process of internal growth. Since we are only able to spend a short amount of time together, we do expect a strong commitment to the process from you. There is only so much we can accomplish face-to-face, so at times there will be aspects that you will need to work on in your day-to-day life. We believe that the quality of growth from individual counseling is directly connected to the amount of effort and attention that you invest in the process.
We use Cognitive Behavioral, Solution Focused, and Narrative therapies in our practice, as well as family system techniques. These therapies can help with depression, anxiety, communication, and couples issues.
